Balakanda
Sarga Fifty

Then Rama along with Lakshmana followed the venerable sage, and travelling in the north easterly direction they reached the place where Sacrifice is being conducted. Then Rama along with Lakshman spoke to the best of sages as follows." The sacrifice of venerable Janaka is well provide for. Here there are thousands of Brahmins from many countries who are scholars having studied Vedas. Oh Brahman ! Residences for the sages, as well as hundreds of vehicles can be seen here. You may decide the location where we may stay. "

The venerable sage having heard Rama selected a place with peaceful surroundings and facilities for water.

The King too having heard that Sage Viswamitra has come, came there quickly with humility along with his priest Satananda. The priest brought the sacred waters and offered to venerable Viswamitra following prescribed rituals and chanting mantras. Receiving the honors offered by King Janaka , the venerable sage enquired about his welfare and about the sacrifice which is proceeding without a hitch. There after he enquired after the welfare of other sages and proceeded happily along with those priests.

Then the king with folded hands spoke to the best of sages as follows. " Oh Bhagavan ! Please take your seat along with other sages". Hearing those words of Janaka , sage Viswamitra then took his sear. Then the king along with his ministers and priests took his seat. Seeing that everybody is seated appropriately , the king spoke to sage Viswamitra as follows.

"By Gods grace , today the sacrifice is well provided for and has become fruitful too. Today with your venerable presence the sacrificial fruits have also been obtained. Oh Brahman ! With arrival of all sages along with you the best of sages I am blessed. I have also been rewarded . Oh Brahmarshi ! only twelve days are left. Then the gods arriving to receive their part of sacrificial offerings will be seen by you".

Having spoken with the best of the sages thus , the king with folded hands again asked the following.

"May all be well with you. These two boys seem to be of valor equalling the Devas, they look like a Bull or Tiger. In their movement they look like a Lion or elephant. They have wide eyes resembling a lotus leaf. They are carrying their swords, arrows and wearing their Bow. In looks they resemble the Ashwini gods. They are of age appropriate to youth. They look like the celestials free of death from Devaloka. Oh Sage! How are you coming on foot ? why are they here ? Oh Venerable sage ! Whose sons are these two who are carrying best of arms ? Like the Sun and Moon gracing the skies, these two are gracing this land by their presence. By their acts, form and speak they resemble each other. I am curious to know about these two who are wearing their hair which retains its freshness of Child's hair".

Hearing those words of venerable Janaka, Viswamitra told him that these two are sons of King Dasaratha. he ten elaborated on their stay in Siddhasrama, the killing of Rakshasas, visiting the city of Visala and travel from there. Then he also related story of Ahalya as well as the meeting with sage Gautama. Finally he told Janaka about the interest in knowing about the great bow of Siva which brought them to Mithila.

Having related all of above to the venerable Janaka, Viswamitra became silent.
